Unfortunately, past mistakes or misfortunes can reduce a person's credit score and hinder them from enjoying the benefits of a credit card.
When you apply for a credit card, the card issuing company will obtain a copy of your credit report and credit score. The credit report will include a history of all your credit account transactions, including late payments and unsettled accounts. If you have a good credit score you are more likely to be approved by the issuing company and will likely have a high credit limit. A bad credit score reduces the liklihood of your application being accepted, and if accepted will reduce your credit limit. Although maintaining a high credit score is the best way to handle credit options, there are now alternate ways for a person with bad credit to obtain a credit card.
Two alternative credit cards have been designed specifically for those with bad credit scores. These are student credit cards and secured VISA accounts. They can improve your credit score or even rescue you from bankruptcy. A "student" credit card is not only for students, but also for those with little or no credit. This type of card has a lower credit limit, provides discounts at certain stores, and gives points for purchases. The secured VISA card allows the credit card holder to rebuild and improve their credit record. A security deposit the amount of the credit card limit is required before submitting an application.
The requirements for a student or secured VISA account are a valid form of identification, verification of employment and income, a copy of your last credit record, and documentation of other financial means, such as stocks or investments.
As the need for credit rises, the need for a good credit history also increases. Interest rates fluctuate and an unsteady economy make having a good credit score a necessity to obtain important necessities, such as a house or car. With a student card or secured VISA you can receive a credit card, build your credit history, and begin a new financial future.
